The Relation Among Romantic Attachment, Personality Traits And Marriage Quality

Marriage quality is the level of marriage adjustment in individual's current romantic relationships, which reflects the mutual adaptability between husband and wife in a certain period. Marriage quality affects the spouses'quality of life, physical and mental health, the success of career, the next generation of physical and mental development and social stability. The study on marriage quality can provide science basis for marriage counseling and treatment, which helps the individual to raise the level of marriage adjustment.In China, most studies researched the relationship between personality traits and marriage quality, a few of studies on the relationship between romantic attachment and marriage quality. But few studies among romantic attachment, personality traits and marriage quality.Therefore, this study examined the interrelations among romantic attachment, personality traits and marriage quality by using the method of questionnaire in 232 married person. The results are as follows:(1) There was no significant differences of marriage age, educational status and income state on marriage quality.(2) There was no significant differences of gender on romantic attachment dimentions, personality traits and marriage quality.(3) Attachment avoidance was correlated significantly negatively with neuroticism and psychoticism, Attachment anxiety was correlated significantly positively with neuroticism. Marriage quality was significantly correlated negative neuroticism, psychoticism and attachment avoidance.(4) Romantic attachment and personality traits significantly predicted marriage quality. Neuroticism and attachment avoidance were direct and significant negative predictor for marriage quality, attachment avoidance predicted marriage quality better than neuroticism. extraversion and psychoticism had indirect effects on marriage quality through Attachment avoidance., the mediating effect of Attachment avoidance is significant among psychoticism and marriage quality.(5) Neuroticism was direct and significant positive predictor for attachment anxiety; psychoticism was direct and significant positive predictor for attachment avoidance, extraversion was direct and significant negative predictor for attachment avoidance.
