Attachment is a relationship of mutual intimacy which provides warmth and support, built bytwo individuals. Ever since the theory “romantic love can be viewed as an attachment” wasbrought up in the1980’s, the study of attachment had been expanded to adult romantic attachmentfrom the mother-infant relationship. A series of research methods on romantic attachment werethereupon to emerge, studies discovering adult romantic attachment were constantly progressing.Attachments are divided into four different styles by researchers according to the two dimensionsof romantic attachments which are attachment avoidance (else-model) together with attachmentanxiety (self-model) to describe attachment relationships between couples. Due to thedistinctiveness of romantic attachments (that they happen between couples), the concept ofromantic attachment is interosculated with marriage quality, driving an increasing number ofdomestic and foreign scholars into the study of the relationship of these two. Having viewed therelated researches of romantic attachment and marriage quality, results demonstrate that these twoare significant correlated to one another. In previous studies, coping styles are proven significantlyinterrelated with marriage quality; however the quantity of studies of these two is not numerous.Commencing with the adjustment in matrimony of married couples, this study philosophized howromantic attachments and coping styles would influence marriage quality.This study, as an empirical research,<Experience in Close Relationship (ECR) Scale>,<Simple Questionnaire of Coping Styles> and <Locke-Wallace Marital Adjustment Test (MAT)>were chosen as three measuring scales, a questionnaire survey was carried out to investigate453interviewees who fit the prerequisites within the city of Zhengzhou and the surrounding areas.Having statistically analyzed the legitimate data, issues related to romantic attachment, copingstyles and marriage quality of married individuals were explored. Contents of this study are asfollowed:1. the influence of demography statistic on romantic attachment and marriage quality ofmarried individuals;2. the dependence relation of the two dimensions of romantic attachment andmarriage quality;3. The intermediation of coping styles between romantic attachment andmarriage quality. <Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS19.0)> was employed as statistic analyzingtool, various statistical methods such as independent-samples T test, mono factor analysis ofvariance, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were exercised to draw thefollowing conclusion:First, the two dimensions of romantic attachment and marriage quality are of significantlyvariance according to age, marriage status, marriage age, number of children, education andresidence location but not so according to gender.Second, the two dimensions of romantic attachment which are attachment avoidance andattachment anxiety are both negatively correlated to marriage quality, marriage quality of secureattachment style married individuals is considerably higher than those of dread attachment style.Romantic attachment has a significant negative prediction effect on marriage quality.Third, the coping style aggregate-value is negatively correlated to the two dimensions ofromantic attachment; the coping style aggregate-value is positively correlated to marriage quality,in which the positive coping dimension is positively correlated to marriage quality, negativecoping dimension is negatively correlated to marriage quality.Forth, coping style partially intermediates in marriage quality and the two dimensions ofromantic attachment, attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety.
