More than 300 hundred independent colleges are found in China today. With a completely new mechanism, they have quickly grown into an integral part of Chinese higher education. At its present stage, independent colleges must adopt the modern human resource management mechanism, which necessitates an incentive wage scheme. As independent colleges are unique in many ways, they can not copy the wage scheme from any of those traditional state-owned colleges, and, instead, they have to develop their own wage scheme. Whether independent colleges can succeed in carrying out their strategies and become more competitive hinges in large measure on their faculty development. Decent rewards always foster employees' loyalty and productivity. Therefore, it is of great significance for the independent colleges to establish an incentive wage scheme with their own characteristics. The present study researches into the wage administration system of CL College. First, it makes a thorough survey of the present wage scheme by means of questionnaires and interviews, and then analyzes the problems discovered in the survey according to relevant motivation theories. Then the author puts forward principles guiding the wage scheme design for independent colleges. It is made clear that the cost is always the first consideration and effective wage administration demands a good performance evaluation system. Under these principles, the study proposes a more suitable wage scheme for CL college, which takes into consideration both its present situation and future development. At last, the study has completed the planning of a wage scheme based on its faculty's performance for CL College, which might still be inadequate in some way but sets an example for other independent colleges seeking anincentive wage scheme.
