Performance evaluation is one of the most focused areas in educational measurement. In brief, performance evaluation is to assess students' knowledge and skills through answers and products that students present themselves.It becomes the most focused area because of the negative effects of the standardized test. The multiple-choice test items only can evaluate what the students know, but cannot evaluate what the students can do. In the latest ten years, many scholars in America, England, Canada, Hong Kong and Taiwan have done much theory explorer on the performance evaluation. They also have participated in a lot of research work to assess the skills and abilities that the traditional paper-and-pencil test cannot do. Now, performance evaluation has been widely used in American and Canadian schools, especially in the class evaluation. In fact, because of the clear criteria, flexible approaches and effective results, performance evaluation has become more and more important in the international science teaching, especially in the experiment teaching.On the other side, in China, the influence of exam-oriented education and absence of experience made performance evaluation can not widely develop in the student experiment teaching. Most experiment evaluation is conducted with paper and pencil test now which is in non-laboratory settings and used to being hold after teaching activities. In fact, together with that student experiment is a complex performance activity, it is possible to put performance evaluation into effect. In addition, the concept of performance evaluation, such as multivariant evaluation content, divers evaluation criterion, scheduled quality standard, subjective evaluation, various answers are conform to curriculum reform.The thesis is composed of six parts. In the foreword, the background of performance evaluation and the research of home and abroad are mentioned. The research methods and contents are also introduced briefly. In the second chapter, the current situation of physics student experiment teaching and evaluation in high school is discussed which is based on the questionnaire survey. In the third chapter, the history of performance evaluation is reviewed. The meanings, characteristics, and theoretical foundations of performance evaluation are interpreted. In the forth chapter, the purposes, goals, design principles, content criteria, evaluation tools of performance evaluation are discussed, that is locates to operational aspects. In the fifth chapter, the practices of performance evaluation are carried out. The analyses and discussions about the result are given at the end of the chapter.The performance of students in the practices showed that it is feasible to conduct performance evaluation in student experiment teaching in the high school physics. Performance evaluation could raise the learning enthusiasm of students, stimulate the learning motivation of students and contribute to the ability in design of experiments and creational thinking. What is more, performance evaluation in the teaching could optimize the teaching process, extend operating time and improve the students' operation quality and efficiency.
