Today, with the rapid development of society and economy, the step of society is faster and faster, and full of competition, all these bring great stress to university students. Tourism can help them get ride of study stress, easy the discomfort that the life brings. Meanwhile, tourism can exert a subtle influence on broadening university students' sight, sharpening their individuality, molding their sentiment, cultivating the ability of appreciation of the beautiful. Therefore, university students' traveling is of great signification. With a view to the number of university students and their traveling ability, university students' traveling has a broad prospect. Developing the tourism market of today's university students is to make preparation for tomorrow's tourism market. But in our country, almost all the society (including tourism industry, government, university and parents) pays little attention to university students' traveling, which makes the development of university student tourism market in spontaneity and disorder. Thus, it is of great necessity to developing and studying tourism market of university students. Essentially, the first step to studying market is to carry on the probe about behavior characteristic of tourists.Firstly, this thesis expounds on the basis of tourism theory which includes the study of travel behavior model, tourism motivation theory, tourism attitude theory and the theory of choice behavior of tourism destination.Then, a practical study on the university students travel behavior pattern is carried out. Based on the data from tourism market investigation into students of partial universities in Xi'an from October to November of 2006 and data processing with SPSS and Excel software, a systemic comparison and analysis on travel behavior pattern of overall university students and their different groups from three aspects of tourism decision-making behavior, tourism consumption behavior and the space-time behavior is made. The characteristic of the travel behavior pattern of university students in Xi'an (including the different groups) is summed up.Lastly, an extension study of the demonstration is carry on. According to the market potential, traveling supply factors, request factors, support factors and contradictory questions of university students tourism market, the present situation of university students tourism market are analyzed. Considering the characteristic of the travel behavior pattern of university students, the pointed proposal for developing the university students travel market is put forward from support factors, the solution of travel expense, the choice of tourist markets, design and development of travel products, the price strategy and marketing strategy of travel products.
