There is no doubt that English learners differ from each other in level due to their individual innate qualities and characteristics and those differences cannot be ignored. Nowadays, with much more attention being paid to quality-education, how to crate enough space for learners to develop their unique personalities has become a topic heatedly discussed and studied by experts and other specialties. Admittedly, with the widespread use of computers and the Internet as well as many a learning software, learners get familiar with the mode of learning online. However, on the other hand, although a great many online materials and learning sofewares can help teachers and students with their teaching or learning in a way , yet most of them are simply electronic textbooks or organized in a stiffly programmed way. As a result, they fail to provide learners with personalized stuff and learning process. My paper is intended to explore how to really improve teachers and students'efficiency and effectiveness by resorting to modern means. When it comes to English grammar teaching and learning, both teachers and students are in a puzzle because of the changing ideas in English teaching and learning. Often, teachers fail to take into thorough account of every student, while many students find it hard to have a good knowledge of English grammar when exposed to materials unfit for them. It is commom for them that too much time and efforts devoted to grammar revision doesn't turn out a good result. After consulting and discussing with lots of English teachers about it, I've finally worked out where the problems lie and therefore, based on my findings , I've designed a software suitable for middle school teachers and students to review and thus master grammar in an efficient and effective way. As is know to us all, softwares intended for middle school English grammar are in short supply. What's worse, most of them are far from satisfaction. Therefore, having studied such similar softwares, I come up with some well-considered ideas to improve them.My design applys item response theory in a creative way. Learners'ability to deal with detailed knowledge is thoroughly considered and my design fully realizes the connection between language points and succeeds in intergrating them. An example in point is my specially designed datasheets. My carefully designed system is expected to help students to improve their learning effectivness and efficiency. In order to avoid students wasting time in doing a great deal of exercises, I've endowed my software with a diagnostic function at its entrance. Its function is to accurately diagnose students'level in grasping a certain language points according to their learning records left in my system and meanwhile my system will offer them relative advice for their progress.Only by exposing them to suitable materials can students avoid doing heaps of repeated exercises. On the whole, my paper will present you a considerately designed system which serves to fill middle school students'learning gaps in grammar. The system will diagnose students learning gaps fisrt and then help students to fill those gaps. One thing worth mentioning is that all the materials provided in my system are more than appropriate for middle school stuendesMy paper begins with an introduction to the background of my research and current situations of such kind of researches both at home and abroad. After that, I present theories and foundation of my research and also make an analysis of requirements and functions of my designed system. And then, I give an account of my process of exploiting my system and main problems related to it. Finally, I point out identified shortcomings and efforts to get it better.
