The advocation of developing key competencies of Chinese students highlights the fundamental education reform.The mathematical reading ability of student has been mentioned twelve times in the National Curriculum Standard of Mathematics in Senior High School(2007)issued by the Ministry of Education,which does not propose the concept of mathematical reading ability and regard the mathematical reading ability as a kind of ability in Mathematics.However,it is obvious that the mathematical reading ability plays a key role in mathematics learning.Until now,the development of students' mathematical reading ability has been focused in China's Mathematics teaching.Besides,the cultivation of students' mathematical reading abilities is conducive to the development of students' key competencies.Therefore,the measurement of students' mathematical reading ability becomes the essential part of the Mathematical competence assessment.Based on the Item Response Theory,this thesis compiles a scale for accurately measuring the mathematical reading abilities of students in Grade 2 of senior high school.Based on the Item Response Theory,by referring to the related contents in Mathematics textbook in senior high school,the writer designs 35 choice questions with four options,and then makes a measuring scale after optimization,combination and selection of the project.The scientific and accurate data are attained through collecting students' scores in tests and then analyzing the scores by logistic model with three parameters.ANOTE1.60 software is used for drawing the maximum amount of information and the maximum amount of information provided by the whole test in the project characteristic curve and test information curve,the writer find that Item 11 and Item 12 can provide more information.Item 11 tests the program block diagram in the algebra part,and the Item 12 tests the relationships among every statistical graph.After the data analysis,it can be concluded that students' mathematical reading abilities in algebra and statistics are better.Besides,because these kinds of items usually test students' mathematical reading abilities of middle level,the conclusion can be made that the mathematics reading abilities of most of the participants in this research are at the middle level.Additionally,because Item 14 can provide more information than Item 2,and the test contents of Item 14 is related to the function,it can be concluded that students' mathematical reading abilities in function are their weakness,which should be paid more attention by Mathematics teachers in senior high schools.
