With the rapid development of the computer technology and information technology in middle schools and with the constant improvement of hardware and software, Computer Assisted Language Learning (referred to as CALL) has become a trend, which makes middle school English teachers encounter new opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, the new technology provides the wider area to develop and extend; on the other hand, the application of the new technology requires the teachers' higher level. Although the effectiveness of the application of CALL depends on many factors, the teachers indeed play the leading role. The beliefs, the technical and theoretical levels of the teachers and the methods that teachers use all affect the application directly.In this paper, through questionnaires and interviews, the objectives of the present study are to investigate: the participants' technical and theoretical level, their current practice of CALL and their belief on CALL. The survey results show that middle school English teachers have made progress in the technology, and have applied CALL in daily life in some degree. The participants generally hold a positive attitude toward computers and CALL; however, the problems that CALL brings to the teachers and the lack of technical and theoretical knowledge of the teachers really constrain the scope and depth of application of CALL. Therefore, schools and teachers need to make great efforts to improve teacher capability and the application of CALL level.
