On The Losing And Regressing Of The Criticism Spirit Of University

University is a rational base for academy, academy is the throughout mission of university, academy itself is very rigorous, it means rational exploration and criticism, this spirit is necessary to the development of university, especially when we are living in such a modern society, university need to keep its criticism spirit and reflection spirit to keep its special charm. Only with this spirit, can university eliminate the false and retain the true, can civilization be transferred. At the very first, medieval university was made up of liberal intellectuals spontaneously, their opinion always conflicted with the interest of church and royal, thus, university started to struggle with religious forces when it was produced, this kind of struggle is also the struggle with the secular power, and also a fight for liberal right of the public. The criticism spirit of intellectuals in university is one aspect of the university criticism spirit. After medieval, university developed on, and the development went with the criticism to religious power and the struggle with the imperial power, this spirit is just the prototype of university criticism spirit, and it protected the development of university.The criticism spirit of university is not only important for the development of university, but also for the development of our society. Bourdieu once said, "Democratic society should encourage criticism spirit, including self-criticism. As for democracy, criticism is necessary." In fact, not only democratic society, all kinds of society can not be separated from criticism spirit, for" society and its elements are complex in the course of interaction, and this kind of complexion showed as those complex social phenomenon." "During the development of our society, the function of criticism can provide power for society, point out the development direction, and propose monitoring strategy for society development. Our society develops itself just during the continual criticism to the living conditions."However, during the development of society, there are four problems:firstly, popular culture weakens the criticism spirit and elite role of university; secondly, traditional education idea affects the administration of university; thirdly, the popularity of university digests the criticism spirit of university; lastly, economy lavishly controls the distance of market and university. Either for the fact that intellectuals live in university, which decides they are responsible for our society and university, or for the criticism spirit of university itself, university needs intellectuals to pick up the irreplaceable spirit.Based on the lost of criticism spirit of university, which is affected by politic, economy, culture and traditional idea, and based on the importance of the back of criticism, this paper tries to propose four pieces of suggestion:firstly, based on the reformation of Peking university, propel the structural reform of university continuously; secondly, with the premise of strengthening the academic democracy, cultivate the public rationality of university; thirdly, based on the tenure, implement the appointment system and promotion system of teachers in university; lastly, explore effective mode of curriculum reform, construct new educating pattern, invest more to higher education to keep university away from market in some degree.
