The maturity of emotion is an important measurement to one's all-round development. Emotion means the internal experience which is produced when one's emotional needs are satisfied or vice versa. It is produced along with one's sense, consciousness, memory, thinking, imagination, among other understanding procedures. On the other hand, emotion affects and restricts one's perceptive development. So the development of emotion is an important foundation for one to grow up healthily, for it is not only a basic motivation for perception, but an evaluational mechanism for behavioral selection as well. The sensibility of appreciation, sympathy, respect, shame, affectionate feelings and friendship functions in such areas as mutual communication, emotional transfer, influence, share and motivation, and this makes it an important symbol of life. Only with the improvement of sensibility itself, and with the students' keener participation in the educational activities, will education, especially the Chinese language teaching, be claimed to be successful, for it is only under such circumstances that students can have more opportunities to be natural, to have communication or dialogues on an equal footing, to be esthetically cultivated and to have more appreciation and love.At present, high school students in China, especially those living in relatively developed cities, are mostly emotionally immature or rather suffering from emotional deficiency. This is best demonstrated in the fact that while some students are too self-centered, psychologically weak and improperly-contained, others, who are lazy and uninterested in learning, can neither focus their energy on studies nor can they have their homework finished in time, thus resulting in poor academic performance. No requirement or request from either teachers or parents can arouse their enthusiasm for studying, and to make things still worse, they do not have the slightest sense of gratitude. What has led to the lack of emotion on the students' part? First of all, society and family education are to blame. Then, school education also bear unshirkable responsibility. And it should not be neglected that both the educational concept and the educational behavior of the Chinese language teachers have exerted paramount impact on the formation of this phenomenon. From the viewpoint of professional requirement and responsibility of a Chinese language teacher, I deem it most urgent to reflect upon this phenomeon in a positive manner and do something to improve it. And that is what this paper will discuss.Teaching of Chinese language should serve as an occasion for the teacher and the students to communicate, for wisdom to build up, and for the high school students to develop their sound emotion. With that in mind, a Chinese language teacher should and must optimize his education with emotion and cultivate his students' moral character with emotion. A teacher should encourage his students to become passionate, independent and reflective readers. When it comes to Chinese reading comprehension, individual reading and after-class reading should be made a stimulus to the healthy emotional development of the students. The teaching concept and educational behavior of a Chinese language teacher, wherein are emphasized respect, appreciation, mutual help, guidance, reflective thinking and co-operation, should be the catalyst to the healthy emotional development of the students. Meanwhile, teaching of other subjects, community and society education should all be combined to create an atmosphere for the healthy emotional development of high school students. Therefore, we should conduct a thorough study of the present status quo of the Chinese language teaching and at the same time try to explore a new approach which is not only student-friendly but also oriented towards the future. We should explore how to put into practice in the teaching of the Chinese language such new philosophical or educational ideas as the theory of dialogue, Gastalt theory, Nodding's caring education theory and situational education, all of which are hopefully to help with the emotional development of high school students. If this be done, teachers of the Chinese language may achieve something and the Chinese language teaching may go even further.
