Role Positioning And Professionalism Research Of College Counselor

With the transformation of society and popularization of college education, Ideology and concept of college student are all different from before, which undoubtedly brings a great challenge to the education of college student ideology and politics. College counselor, as an important part of college teacher and management team, works on the front line of college student ideology and politics education, shoulders an important responsibility on education, management and service to students, and also plays a key function on promoting total improvement of student. Correct judgement of their role and level of their quality matters much to growth of student, improvement of college, and even to the stability and prosperity of our country. The work of a college counselor can be regarded of great importance and as a glorious mission. During recent years, Education department has issued a serial of documents, which bring importance of construction of college counselor to a level which it never have been, such as "Ministry of Education Opinions on Enhancing the Construction of College Counselor and Head Teacher Team", "Guide Lines on Construction of College Counselor Team" and " 2006-2010 Training Plan of College Counselor".However, we met two difficulties during growth of counselor team recently:first, how to play the correct role and have a clear idea of job responsibility; second, how to improve self quality and working quality, so as to increase working effectiveness and efficiency. According to society role definition in Sociology, this article analyzes understanding and expectation of college counselor. Base on this, it discusses what a more suitable role can a counselor play. According to present tendency and expectation from students and college education on counselor team, it points out the professional quality that a college counselor should have, and also find out counter measure to problems exist in quality construction of college counselor and its root cause. This article have 5 parts:The first part:It introduces and analyzes background of the problem, describes present study on role and professional quality issue of college counselor, and also summaries its meaning of the study and innovation points. The second part:It introduces counselor's theoritical meaning from 3 aspects:meaning, characteristics of work and existence necessity of a counselor and provides necessary theoritical foundation for counselor team construction. It also looks back to improvement history of college counselor system and analyze the role evolution of counselor during that history.The third part:Throght understanding of society role, expectation of society role and role conflict, analyzing the role college counselor plays and its historical change, it point out the current situation of role conflict of present counselor team together with its root cause. It gives out a suitable role of college counselor according to understanding of college counselor role and expectation.The fourth part:Based on clear understading of "quality" meaning, combined with expectation from every side to counselor, it points out the professional quality request to new period college counselor and reveals problems of current counselor professional quality together with its cause.The fifth part:Regarding current counselor professional quality issue and its cause, it suggests counter measures to improve counselor professional quality from three aspects: Attach importance from education departments of various region and enhance great strongyth from policy; improve selection, training and management in college; pay attention to learng and practice by counselor self.
