Role Theory Perspective Of College Counselor Team Construction

Over the years, what kind of role the college counselors exactly play? Since the popularization of higher education,society,parents,college students change their requires and expectations about the role of counselor,counselors change their role from a single manager who is a manager and ideological、political educator to diverse stakeholder of Student Affairs,and from management to guide,from administrative to service,from the political-centered to the student-centered.During the transition period,college counselors face with new challenges and problems,such as the dislocation、vacancy of counselor role and role blurring problems that seriously weaken the main force functions of ideological and political educator,inhibit the role expansion as a mentor in student’s life and an instructor in student’s mental health, also led to a series of problems in team building of counselor. The basic concerns of this study are:what kind of role about the counselor in the current work of college students ? Counselors how to achieve its role?This study used survey research methods. Through questionnaire in several colleges and universities in Wuhan,and described the role state of counselor from four aspects:role expectations、role orientation、role playing and role disorder. And based on the description ,proposed how to do a good counselor and build high-quality instructors’team.This paper consists of four parts:The first part introduces the background, contents, methodology of the research, and reviews related researches about counselor role at home and abroad, and with a certain understanding for the topics of domestic and international research profile.The second part describes the generation of counselor system、development and historical change, and provide a realistic basis for the development of counselors.The third part is the main part of the paper,it analysis the role of college counselors from perspective of role theory and this part contains four aspects: role expectations,role orientation,role play and the role disorder.The four part is the part of countermeasures, and proposes how well presented the role of counselors and build high-quality instructors’team based on the role of counselor described.
