Wushu is a traditional Chinese way of keeping health as well as an important media by which traditional culture was passed down and national spirits were spreaded and cultivated. As a unique national culture form and traditional excellent sport, Wushu has it own important functions that can not be replaced by any other sports, and Wushu has always been an important part of the teaching content in physical education in colleges. Followed by the rapid development of the higher education of our country in the new century, the number of non-sport majors in sports colleges increased fast. There are already 21 such majors and they have been an important part of the higher education of our country. Because of the important functions of Wushu, considered either in strategic or cultural perspective, it is very significant to teach Wushu in the non-sport majors in sports colleges in China. However, according to some relative information, it is manifested that the Wushu teaching in the non-sport majors in colleges in far from satisfying and can not satisfy the students, and the student are not active enough in learning Wushu. The reason is that the content of Wushu teaching does not match the development of our society, and thus it is crucial to optimize the teaching content in the non-sport majors. This paper applied mainly the methods of ducument materials, practical research, experts interviewing, questionaires, data statistics and logic analyzation to make research in the non-sport majors in the 14 sports colleges. After the return of the questionaires and checking the syllubus of those colleges, we found that there are quite big differences between them, and there are even colleges in which there are no Wushu lessons in non-sport majors and in some other colleges there are no other Wushu teachings other than Taiji. On specific teaching content, there are also quite big differences between those colleges. All of the colleges opened Taiji classes and there are some colleges which opened traditional healthy-life-keeping classes, but no colleges except Shanghai P. E College opened real-fighting classes represented by Sanda; most of the students didn't have basic Wushu skills and knowledge before they entered into college and they showed no interests and were not active in Wushu learning. During the process of the optimization of the teaching content of Wushu in the non-sport majors, after the discussion of foundation and principles of the optimazation of Wushu teaching, we supposed some methods of how to optimize Wushu teaching, and they are the method of the optimazation of real-fighting skills teaching, the method of the optimazation of Taiji basic forms, the method of the optimazation of healthy-life-keeping classes, the method of the optimazation of traditional Wushu forms teaching and the optimazation of Changquan basic form teaching. The paper also makes analyzations in the process of the real practises of Wushu teaching from the teacher group, teaching grounds and teaching facilities to discuss the optimization of Wushu teaching content. It is supposed that by all the above researching we can offer some referencial advices on the development of the Wushu teaching in non-sport majors in the sport colleges in China.
