There is a common phenomenon that primary school English teachers tend to pay more attention to the classroom instruction rather than the English job design. To solve the problem, this research has conducted in-depth research into the English assignment design in the middle grade and high grades, based on the rich literature research, guided by such theories as the theory of multiple intelligences, zone of proximal development, humanistic theory, language input theory, language output hypothesis and interaction theory, and adopting such research methods as data studies, textual analysis, questionnaire method, interviewing method, case study method. The aim of this research is to help the students out of the passive learning dilemma, prompt them to finish the assignment actively and experience the happiness of doing their assignments, arouse their interest in English, develop their good habit of learning English, build up their confidence, master the methods of learning English, enhance their ability to learn and use English, develop their ability to explore, cooperate and innovate. This research is of great help to reduce student'heavy burden and increase their efficiency.Based on theoretical and emperical research, the following five principles for job design are ascertained: the combination of class assignment with homework, the combination of interest with applicability, the combination of typicality with synthesis, the combination of stratification with selectivity, the combination of illumination with innovation. Besides, due to the importance of assignment and the characteristics of the English subject, this research holds that the content of job design should be interesting, closely related to students'life and the times, one step beyond students'linguistic competence (i+1), difficulty properly, and suitable to students'cognitive development stage.On that basis, the research is done from two sides: the design of class assignment and the design of homework. Class assignment is focused on four dimensions: listening, speaking, reading and writing, and each dimension is expanded from different perspectives. For example, listening practice design is done from three aspects: the method of operation, listening practice design, the choice of materials. Speaking practice design centers on pair work and group work which reading comprehension focuses on the choice of reading materials and reading exercise design. Writing design is divided into two levels: middle and high grades. Homework research consists of mechanical homework, task-based homework and accumulated homework.In conclusion, I believe that this job design could not only enrich students'knowledge but also help develop their innovative ability, thus accelerating their all-round, sustainable development.
