Principals are the soul of a school. As is the principal, so is the school. In the period of transition, rapid development comes in economic, social, cultural, ecological and other aspects of the developed areas in The Pearl River Delta, and the people have become increasingly demanding in education. The traditional role definition of secondary school principals is incompatible with this development, which is becoming more conspicuous day by day, therefore top priority is to be given to a new definition for the roles of the principals in secondary school principals.Researches on defining the role of secondary school principals in the developed areas in the period of transition, mainly based on different theoretical point of views of principal roles, principals specialization and professionalization, conducting analysis of the historical evolution of the roles of the early and current, home and abroad secondary school principals, arrive at the conclusion that the present roles of foreign secondary school principals are generally defined as the management executives and school leaders, while the domestic ones as executors and administrators in command, internal and external coordinator, organizers of educating, and fund raisers. At the same time, due to the economic, social, management, and environmental factors the Pearl River Delta in transition, the people have great expectation for high quality education and urgently call for secondary school principals, whose roles different from the traditional ones. What's more, the relevant ability and quality requirements to secondary school principals have been put forward.By analyzing and studying, this paper attempts to reveal a new perspective to the secondary school principals of the developed areas in transition, and that is the roles of secondary school principals of the developed areas in transition should be defined as the school leaders, guides in education, financial managers and public servants. This paper also combines the different theories on principal specialization and professionalization with the practical successful experience in defining the roles of some national outstanding principals, on which the exact definition of the roles of secondary school principals in developed areas in transition are analyzed and raised in this research.Finally, this paper has also developed areas in transition, the role of secondary school principals and the ability to elevate the strategic direction of master made two recommendations: that the developed areas in transition, the role of secondary school principals in the direction of grasping the strategies and the role of capacity building strategies to further enrich and improve the well-developed transition the role of regional secondary school principals accurate positioning.
