The faculty evaluation is an important subject, as well as a difficult problem, in teacher administrative activities. Although the current faculty evaluation plays a certain role in the development of universities and teachers, some problems and drawbacks, closely related to the value orientation of faculty evaluation, are exposed in its process. Taking"academic profession"as an important angle of view, this study, first, makes a rational re-examine and thinking about the current faculty evaluation value orientation, and then presents recommendations for its implementation.This paper first elucidate the connotation of academic profession, and then propose the academic nature and sociality characteristics of academic profession role. It is the academic nature of academic profession role that shape the distinct organizational characteristics of the universities in which academician is the key determinant, which makes the faculty evaluation manifest its particular managerial characteristics when it makes use of the modern human resource management theories. Through analyzing the relationships between academic profession role and external environment, establish four dimensions of the valid value orientation of faculty evaluation in modern society: academic orientation, market orientation, administrative orientation, humanities orientation.Based on this theory analysis, the paper discusses the history, present of the faculty evaluation in foreign countries. It explores the deep-seated relationships between academic profession role and value orientation of faculty evaluation, which also analyzes the problems existed in our country's value orientation of faculty evaluation. At last, make attempts to combine internal and external cues, and propose some basic points to the location and construction of the value orientation of faculty evaluation.
