Since 20th century, the Theory of Constructivism has been very popular in the world, and become the guiding ideology of effective teaching. Problem-based learning (PBL) is such a teaching model on the basis of the constructivism. It is evolved from medical education in North America, and has expanded into elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. More and more educational researchers of our country become interested in PBL. When we use PBL to design the teaching in middle school physics classes, it is necessary to discuss whether it can adapt the needs of curriculum reform of basic education in our country.This paper reports on how problem-based learning is incorporated into the physics curriculum in middle school. The focus of the paper is on how to use PBL to design the teaching in physics classroom. This paper analyze the general theory of PBL and whether we can combine PBL with the curriculum reforming of our country, which is the basic theory of this paper. With the analysis of several science cases, the paper concludes the problems and difficulties in carrying out PBL in middle school science teaching. Considering the main position of teachers in teaching design procedure, this paper offers some advice to the teachers, which helps the physics teachers recognize possible states in teaching and helps to improve the effective of teaching.The thesis includes five aspects:Introduction: Put forward the theory; introduce the research circumstance in and out China; introduce the method of research of this paper.First: Mention the relative theories. Introduce the character, principle, and essential element of PBL. Introduce the way to design the PBL teaching.Second: Analyze the basic theory of PBL with Constructivism and new curriculum theory. It shows that not only can we carry out PBL in the class of our country, but also we should bring PBL into our new curriculum reforming.Third: With the analysis of two foreign teaching cases, the paper concludes some suggestions towards middle school physics teaching. Put forward to some problems in PBL teaching and alter some physics teaching in China with these conclusions.Forth: Point out the main idea and weaknesses of this paper. Mention the hopes for the further research of PBL in Chinese physics teaching.
