The traditional English teaching lays more emphasis on English knowledge rather than practical ability, on grammar rather than communication, on writing rather than oral English. Greatly influenced by these teaching methods, a lot of students are afraid of or dare not speak English. So it is hard to foster the students'enthusiasm, initiative and creativity. In addition, the number of the students in my two classes is too large. So it is particularly serious. On the basis of analyzing those defects of the traditional English teaching, this thesis advocates a new model for English learning, namely, the cooperative learning. Therefore, I chose "the Application of Cooperative Learning in Oral English Teaching in Large Classes in Junior High Schools" as a research. The purpose of this thesis is to study and test whether strategies have a positive effect on students'oral level; whether the oral trainings arouse the students'enthusiasm in learning English. The research questions that this thesis is supposed to answer are listed as follow:Ql:Can students in the experimental group achieve more oral English proficiency than those in the control group? Q2:In which aspect do they perform better than those in the control group, accuracy or fluency?Q3:Can students in the experimental group promote more interest and confidence than those in the control group? For the purpose of answering the above research questions, the research needs to prove the following hypothesis:1. After the cooperative learning, it will promote the students'scores for oral English.2. Compared with fluency, accuracy of the students will be improved more efficiently.3. Compared with the students in the control group, the students' enthusiasm, initiative and creativity will be greater in the experimental group. In the middle of test, the subjects of the test are my students in Saibo Middle School of Shandong Province. First, I adopted a major questionnaire and an oral test before the experiment. Then, I found out the answer to the problems after comparative analysis of the oral problem of two classes. The students were trained in different learning groups through the cooperative learning. After the experiment, data collection was conducted mainly through questionnaires, pre-test and post-test. The results, which were analyzed and compared at the end of the semester, have proved that cooperative learning could improve students'ability of oral English in large classes. The results of the experiment showed that as long as the teacher intensified the training continuously by the cooperative learning as usual, it promoted the students'ability of oral English, and the students had fun learning English. In a word, the cooperative learning is regarded as the most efficient way to benefit all students in oral capacity after the training.Nevertheless, there are some limitations of the research. This research was to study the oral learning of large classes and didn't represent the students in standard class. The number of the students is too large to be managed. So I had to adopt stratified sampling:choosing 30 students in each class. Thus its reliability is relatively lower than expected.
