With the reform of the new curriculum, there occurred many new changes in China's English teaching. One of the major issues is how to make the English teaching of junior middle schools and senior middle schools match each other or we may call it a good transition. So it is the purpose of this research to investigate the status of the transition between the English teaching of junior middle schools and senior middle schools and what improvement we can do about it.Under the New Curriculum Standards, according to the laws of language learning, how can teachers make students form the good English study habit? How can teachers train the students'ability of using English? How can teachers make all kinds of students reach the English stage of senior middle schools? These are the questions that every English teacher of senior middle schools must think.Firstly, the researcher studied and analyzed some related articles and information, trying to find some aspects that the former researchers haven't studied.Secondly, taking the theory of New Curriculum Standards, Constructivism, and Metacognition as the theory bases, this research made some investigations into the transition of the English teaching from Junior to Senior Schools. In this thesis, the research chose the teachers and students in Jiangsu Zhenze Middle School (including 50 English teachers from junior middle schools,50 English teachers from senior middle schools and 160 students from senior one) to be the research objects. In the hope to reveal the status of the transition between the English teaching and learning of junior middle schools and senior middle schools, the researcher conducted questionnaires among the students and teachers, concerning two main points:the teaching and the learning.Lastly, with the help of the analyses of the current situation, the researcher has also explored from many aspects to improve it. On the one hand, through improving the teaching methods and learning ways, the researcher tried to find out more and better effective methods. On the other hand, the researcher used A Bridge to Senior English, and tried to help the students realize the smooth transition from the junior middle schools to senior middle schools.In conclusion, some suggestions are made for the transition of English teaching between junior middle schools and senior middle schools, hoping it will be of benefit to the research and practice of the transition between junior middle schools and senior middle schools.
