The world today is becoming increasingly globalization and now we are confronted by a number of issues that requires the cooperation and efforts of people all around the world. The recent financial crises, global warming and pollution, energy management; the dangers confronting us requires every country to understand these problems and cooperate with each other. We are now living in an era that necessitates understanding between the peoples of different nations, I believe that the circumstances demand us to continue to promote the Education of International Understanding. In the field of pedagogy, the concept of the Education of International Understanding began after the end of World War II, around 1946. UNESCO, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, was founded to promote understanding and peace between countries. It established the first Education for International Understanding Tournament and the first country to implement this kind of education was Japan. In regards to Japan's Education of International Understanding, scholars from countries around the world worked diligently at studying both the theory of and effectiveness of teaching International Studies, with China at the forefront. The JET Program serves as an ideal model for the Education of International Understanding and this report summarizes the JET Program's conditions, environment, and other factors. The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program seeks to help enhance internationalization in Japan by promoting mutual understanding between Japan and other nations. The program also aims to improve foreign language education in Japan and to encourage international exchange at the local level by fostering ties between Japanese youth and foreign youth. It is my hope that China can use this report as a reference to improve its own International Understanding Education Program. The first section of this report includes my reasons and decision to join the JET program. The second section explains the JET program's environment, processes and background. The third section introduces what each branch of the government is responsible for in the JET program. The fourth section tells of the JET participants' choices, the JET Program's workshops, and its various support programs. The fifth section introduces in greater detail the three types of jobs (ALT, CIR, SEA) and the sixth section is comprised of an evaluation of the JET Program as well as the challenges of the JET Program. The seventh section utilizes the assessments of the JET Program from section six and analyzes the direction of the China's Education of International Understanding.
