The Independent college emerged and developed with the China's reform and opening, and the development of socialist market economy, particularly, the reform of the higher education in China. The Independent College is a new-born thing, and also plays a very important role in China's higher education system. It has a profound social foundation. At the same time, it should be noted that the further development of the independent college faces various challenges and constraints, in which, the issue of enrollment is the core factor. Therefore, we will try to explore the main problems of it and propose effective measures accordingly. The study uses sociological theory and Z Independent College as a case study. It has six chapters:The First chapter is Introduction. It mainly discusses the background, present situation, research methodology and the meaning of the study. For background, we introduce the background of China's socialist market economy, social development and the reform and development of higher education in China. The present situation elaborates the main problems and measures which broadly discussed by academic community. The research methodology applied in this study includes qualitative methodology, quantitative methodology and other method of related disciplines. The significance of study mainly embodies Independent College itself, i.e. a role it plays in our higher education system and our social development.The second chapter introduces the Independent College and the connotation of its enrollment system. The introduction of Independent College focuses on how the Ministry of Education defines independent college. In order to further understand it, we summarize the characters of independent college. Meanwhile, we briefly discuss the development course of Independent Colleges. When it comes to the enrollment of independent college, we mainly discuss the unique features it has had.The third chapter discusses present situation of independent college's enrollment and the major problems it encountered. We use the Z Independent College as a case study to review the history of independent college enrollment, and summarize the characteristics of enrollment. In terms of the major problems it faced, we mainly talk about the slowdown of enrollment's growth, regional saturation of enrollment, the downtrend of student's quality, the community's recognition of Independent Colleges, and imperfect aspects of relevant national policy.The forth chapter is to analyze the social origin of the Independent College's enrollment. It was discussed from three aspects based on the social theory. First of all, we use the theory of public products to demonstrate the private nature of the Independent College and the difficulties it brings in enrollment. Then we use the social theory to demonstrate the social demand for Independent College's existence and development. At last, we use the social setting theory to demonstrate that a certain standards regulations would be offered to the Independent Colleges in order to ensure the enrolment works smoothly.The fifth chapter mainly presents possible enrollment strategy for Independent College. It contains five aspects. Firstly, establish proper and scientific guideline for enrollment. Secondly, improve the teaching quality. Thirdly, set reasonable profession, strengthen employment services. Fourthly, enhance propaganda. Fifthly, improve student matriculation policy and consistently explore new approach.The last chapter is conclusion, which summed up the problems and the significance of this study.
