The education in 21st century emphasizes on the quality of persons being educated. And the key is whether the talents have the consciousness and the ability of creativity. To train and excavate the creativity is a long-term goal with a priority. Among the subjects at schools, Chinese teaching, as a bisic subject, has the exceptionally conditions in training the ability of creativity.Since the new curriculum reform, it pays more attention to training students' creative thinking by the teaching of creative reading. This article starts from the concept of creative reading, discussing the theoretical basis of creative reading and explaining its features and principles. That thinks the creative teaching of reading refers to a kind of teaching activity, which aims at training the innovative ability. During the process of teaching reading, according to the students expectation horizon and the original cognitive structure, teachers use some appropriate teaching methods and strategies to guide and inspire students in order to develop students creative ability which includes the ability of reading and constructing meanings, and to cultivate a student creativity.Then how about the status of creative reading in the primary school language teaching? In this paper, author surveyed 50 language teachers and 500 students in five primary schools in Changchun. Through the questionnaires, interviews and 29 classroom observations, author found that the status of the creative teaching of reading is not perfect. The survey results show that the teaching of creative reading in primary schools has some problems as follow:1. The teaching materials are far away from the text books, lacking of guidance value; 2. Students in learning is in a passive position; 3. Lack of students'creative reading ability while reading; 4.Parents and teachers do not support the creative reading. There are many-sided reasons as follow:1. Teachers have a backward consept on education; 2. No democratic classroom atmosphere; 3. Lack of methodological guidance while students are reading; 4. Single evaluation hinder the development of the creative reading teaching.Based on the problems above, this paper presents some proposals:First, update the concepts of education and improve the quality of teachers; 2. Make teacher-student relationship harmonious and create a democratic classroom; 3. Use the effective strategies to promote students'development; 4. Improve the evaluation system to ensure the implementation of teaching.Finally attached to a case of creative reading teaching and comments for teachers as a reference.
