Words, symbols and figures, which complement and transform each other, constitute the unique physical language. They not only demonstrate the physical world and its laws accurately and vividly, but also produce a lot of rich and unique representations, such as word representations, oral representations, figure representations and mathematic representations, etc. The figure representations, descibing problems by figures, is an important aspect in physics-learning and problem-solving. Solving problems with physical figures means that we describe physical processes, scenes and the processes of reasoning with schematic and physical graphs in physics-studying. It includes figure-reading and figure-constructing.Using physical figures flexiblely and actively plays an important part in the process of problem-solving. Firstly, it can develop students' vision intelligence, improve students' creative thinking and cultivate students' aesthetic taste. Secondly, it can help students understand the physical concepts, promote the study of the laws of physics, analyze physical experiments and solve the problem in physics. From the interviews on some teachers and the analyses of the students' test, we find that students'consciousness and capability of using physical figures are very weak. In senior school, words and symbols are the main methods in physics teaching and learning. However, figure language is not paid enough attention. The survey on the condition of using physical figures to solve problems and its influence shows that: First, students depend on schematic in physics studying. Most of them have the consciousness of drawing graphs, but there's something wrong in correct expression. Physical graph is used less. Only a few students use this method, the majority only occasionally use it in certain questions. Generally, the consciousness of using physical graphs independently is very weak. Scond, there are a variety of reasons leading to the results. (1)Most of students believe that using physical figure is helpful to solve physical problems and its more reliable, but so many students like using this mathod. (2)Teachers can draw schematic and physical graphs in the usual teaching, but space left to student is not enough, and the techniques and skills of drawing are not explained. For physical graphs, teachers tend to be conservative and don't advocate the using of this method in exams. (3)The style of problems has certain influence on using phycial figures to solve problem. For the problem of scene, most students can draw schematic. for the problem of drawing physical graphs, students'responds are aslo quite well. However, for the comprehensive figure problems, especially using graphs independently, the situation is very bad. (4)The experience of using physical figures to solve problems also affects the students.Based on the survey, we suggest that the teachers should pay attention to the process of constructing figures, give full demonstrations to students and cultivate their good habits of drawing, strengthen experimental teaching to inrich students'imagination and improve the ability of using figures on data processing.
