| Learner autonomy (LA) has been a buzz word in foreign language teaching in the past twenty years. Especially in western countries, the concern with teaching and learning has shifted from the teachers' teaching to the students' learning. In China, "Developing the students' autonomous English learning" ability has been set as one of the main goals of English teaching and learning in the New English Curriculum Standard for the Basic Education by the Ministry of Education. In our country, due to years of examination-oriented education and the intense competition of scores, it makes most of the students have less enthusiasm and initiative, resulting in the learning ability of students was generally low, let alone LA ability. So educators have responsibility to change this situation. How to train students with a variety of capacity has become the focus of attention. According to Jerome S. Bruner's Discovery Learning theory, the writer of the thesis tries to put the preparation strategy into teaching , so as to strengthen students' confidence in studying English and make them become active participants in class.China's new "English Curriculum Standards" takes learning strategy as one of the objectives of the curriculum teaching. Preparation strategy is one part of learning strategies. It plays an important role and gets more and more attention. Preparation Strategy Training (PST) should be under the guidance of the teacher. So the purpose of this research is to use preparation strategy in an experiment with the guidance of the theory of Learner Autonomy in junior middle school, in hopes that students will take the initiative to study English after they have possessed certain capacity of LA, and the preparation training can improve their English comprehensive ability. If we carefully guide the students' preparation behavior, encourage them to develop good habits of preparation, their English learning will be more efficient and inter gting.So the author of this thesis did the learning of the ap cation of preparation strategy guided by autonomous learning theory, an designed detailed preparation contracts according to students' level. In this rch, the author used such research methods as questionnaire and pre-test and, lost-test to collect data. The research results proved that the application of preParation strategy training is feasible and effective. The results showed that 1) the learners' autonomous awareness has improved and learners have employed preparation strategies more frequently; 2) the method of signing learner contract with the learners developed learners' autonomous learning habit; 3) students' English learning became more efficient and interesting; 4)preparation strategy is helpful in improving learners' learning achievement. |
