The study investigated the relationship between gender role and satisfaction in dating relationships (heterosexual relationships). Through sampled questionnaire investigations among college students, this paper tried to explore how gender role influenced romantic satisfaction and whether the communication pattern was a mediator between gender role and romantic satisfaction. The main conclusion of this study were as follows::(1)In the research of demographic differences on romantic satisfaction, the romantic relationship satisfaction of male was higher than their partner, but no significant difference was found on communication quality. Positive relationship was found between age and romantic satisfaction. The deeper the love was, the more the lovers felt satisfied. The longer the lovers were together each week, the more they felt satisfied. The romantic satisfaction of lovers who lived in the same city was higher than the ones who didn't.(2)The Androgyny and femininity had highest satisfaction in romantic relationship. The undifferentiated had lowest satisfaction in romantic relationship.(3) The masculinity, femininity and constructive communication had positive relationship with romantic satisfaction. The demand-withdraw and mutual avoidance communication had negative relationship with romantic satisfaction.(4)The masculine characteristics of male were unrelated with romantic satisfaction of their partners, the feminine characteristics of male were positive relationship with romantic satisfaction of their partners. The masculine and feminine characteristics of female were positive relationship with romantic satisfaction of their partners.(5)The constructive communication of male had positive relationship with romantic satisfaction of their partner. The demand-withdraw and mutual avoidance communication of male had positive relationship with romantic satisfaction of their partners, and vice versa.(6)The constructive communication and feminine characteristic were significant predictors of romantic satisfaction.(7)The influence of feminine characteristics on romantic satisfaction was partially affected by the mediators of communication pattern.
