The reason of higher education PE theory curriculum must carry out reform, on the one hand from its own development needs,on the other desiderata to be revised regarding the requirements of life-long physical education. PE. theoretical knowledge teaching is an important means to guiding students fitness and to be healthy living. But in reality the various reasons, it has been reduced to a fringe. From the perspective of internal factors, the Curriculum model of PE. theory courses have been embarrassed seriously to the development of curriculum. So, under the background of implementation new curriculum guide outlines, how to combine different sources, mainly students, teachers and equipment,to exploit a new different PE. theory curriculum model as a letter to be an important study topics.Use the method of document research, survey research, interviews and statistical analysis, we analyze and sum up the present situation of higher education PE theory curriculum; reference the experience of PE practice teaching model ; from curriculum theory, cognitive law and learning psychology theory, with "Higher education PE curriculum guide outlines" as the basis, creative the "Obligatory Optional Self-study" model of PE theory curriculum.The curriculum guiding of this new model is "health first, comprehensive education, life-long fitness, personality development"; the curriculum objective is "be able to test and evaluate their own physical health status, master scientific exercise methods, with certain sports and cultural qualities, forming a healthy lifestyle". The curriculum architecture of this model is Obligatory(2 content) in first-year, Optional(4 content election 2)in second-year , Self-study(the remaining contents). On this basis, we propose curriculum evaluation and curriculum implementation strategies.The "Obligatory Optional Self-study" model is not only conformed students cognitive sports and the law of student physical and mental health, but also inclined to embody the optional and accumulative characteristic of higher education PE theory curriculum, it fundamentally overcomes the longstanding disadvantages of the contents, repetition and greatly improves the activity of students interest in PE elasses,thus it has achieved the goals in the five learning and training domains set in the new curriculum standards.
