With the all-round development of primary education reform in China, the professional training of primary school science teachers are faced with many problems, such as the lack of training requirement survey, the inconformity between training and teaching practice, dull training method and outdated training approach, which goes against the course reform of science education. At present, there is no effective course system and training pattern, so it is urgent to construct the vocational training pattern and provide the focused training for primary school science teachers so as to promote the professionalization. Today more and more importance is attached to science education, which is favorable and beneficial for the training work, so the author is devoted to this research. It is increasingly urgent to improve the quality and level of science teachers, as is clearly pointed out in Criteria for Science Course of Full-time Compulsory Education (targeted for Grade 3-6). However, the status quo is that the number of full-time science teachers is far from enough and part-time teachers are unstable. Besides, some teachers lack the degree in Science and they are not well-qualified for the job. Based on the above analysis, the thesis will firstly review the training patterns for science teachers at home and abroad, and then probe into the 5-stage vocational training mode and activities for primary school science teachers by using Constructivism, Reflexive Theory and Adult Learning Strategy as its guidelines. Its aim is to seek an effective pattern for science teachers'training in order to realize its professionalizaion. This thesis is made up of 4 parts. Part One consists of an introduction about the topic, the objective of the study and literature review.Part Two is focused on the status quo of primary school science teachers' professional quality. Firstly, we will analyze the constitution of the professional quality and describe the ideal professional quality a teacher should have. Then, we will illustrate why the overall professional quality is poor in primary schools. Finally, some solutions will be put forward. Especially, it is suggested to improve the professional quality by receiving scientific and focused training.Part Three is centered on the 5-stage vocational training pattern. After an explanation of the theoretic basis of this pattern, this paper mainly illustrates the five stages concerned in detail. Orientation stage is problem-centered and aims to build the"Problem-Packet"and classify the teachers'requirements. Stage Two, Lecture and Interaction Stage, involves seminars and workshops. Demonstration and Introspection Stage is aimed at helping teachers build team spirit and inquiring sense by attending class show. Classroom teaching practice and Introspection Stage is focused on the improvement of the practical teaching. This stage emphasizes on facilitating teachers to do more research instead of merely doing their teaching work. Some surveys and interviews will be conducted to confirm the effect of such training pattern. Based on the surveys and empirical analysis, we can find problems in time and adjust the training.Part Four analyzes the potential problems and difficulties that may arise when this pattern is applied into practice. Firstly, more research is needed, especially with regard to how this pattern can satisfy various requirements of teachers. Secondly, more efforts should be made to find the better solutions concerning some problems, such as how to use the training method skillfully, and how to build the long-term training system, etc. We believe that there must be some other obstacles and trouble in the training practice because this 5-stage training pattern, just like any other pattern, has its own limitation. Therefore, it is necessary to improve and perfect the training pattern in the future.
