Language is an important tool for people's communication. There are several components in this tool, but the most important component is vocabulary. Vocabulary learning is an important part in English learning; teachers should teach some learning strategies to the students step by step.Recent years, the experts have been researching on vocabulary learning strategies at home and abroad. Since 1970s, the experts began the research on how to carry out vocabulary learning strategy training, improve the efficiency of learning, hoping to help the language learners to master vocabulary successfully. However, most of the research took the college students as research subjects; they seldom had research on junior high school students. For junior high school students, the most important problem on vocabulary learning is that they spent a lot of time on vocabulary learning, but the efficiency is not so good. So, this research focuses on the using frequency of vocabulary learning strategy by junior high school students and the effect of vocabulary learning strategy training.The subjects of this research were the students in Lianzhou third middle school, Gaocheng city, Hebei Province. 200 students took part in this research, including more proficient students and less proficient students. By questionnaire, vocabulary tests and vocabulary learning strategy training, the author wanted to settle the following problems: 1. the using difference on cognitive strategy, meta-cognitive strategy and social/affective strategy between more proficient students and less proficient students.2.whether the vocabulary learning strategy training can help the less proficient student improve their vocabulary size.At the beginning of the semester, the author found that there was difference on vocabulary learning strategy using between more proficient students and less proficient students. After the first vocabulary test, the training was carried out to the less proficient students for the whole semester, and at the end of the semester, a second vocabulary test was carried out to both more proficient students and less proficient students. According to the analysis of the two tests'results, the importance and efficiency of vocabulary learning strategy training was proved. So, it is easy to find out that vocabulary learning strategy training is necessary, and teachers should encourage students to use suitable vocabulary learning strategy as more as possible to improve the learning effects.
