The Ancient Olympic Games was one of the four great Panhellenic competitive games in ancient Greece,founded in 776BC and reached its zenith in the fifth century BC, but with the conquering of Macedonians and the Romans, the Ancient Olympic Games was on the decline. It was considered as a special social activities and cultural phenomenon in the Ancient Greece, the outstanding point of which was humanism spirit. The intrinsic motivation of the rise and development of the Ancient Olympic Games was humanism spirit, and the rejection of the humanism spirit doomed the Ancient Olympic Games to decline. The Modern Olympic rose from modern times on, and the first Modern Olympic Games was held in 1896. The Modern Olympic Games inherited and developed the humanism spirit of the Ancient Olympic Games and gave it the contents of the new era at the same time.The thesis is divided into three parts: introduction, text and conclusion. The introduction briefly introduces the condition of the Ancient Olympic Games'research and the significance of the topic in this thesis. The text consists of four parts. Part one discusses the origin, development and declination of the Ancient Olympic Games. Part two analyzes the reasons for the rise and declination of the ancient Olympic Games. Part three introduces the humanism spirit which plays an important role in the Ancient Olympic Games. Part four introduces the rise of the Modern Olympic Games which inherited and developed the humanism spirit of the Ancient Olympic Games and its development problems. In the conclusion part, the author points out that the research for humanism spirit of the ancient Olympic Games is still not comprehensive although great efforts were ever made in the thesis, further research is still needed.
