The competitive sports of ancient Greece have been quite prosperous in Homeric. The Homeric athletic, whether it is from the setting of the game of competition event, rules, or game prizes, laid the foundation for the origin and development of the ancient Olympic Games. The first Olympic Games was hold in Olympia of Elis in776BC. The origin of Olympic Games is the result of multiple factors, such as geographic factors, religious factors, sports-loving nation characteristics. The city-state of ancient Greece greatly promoted the development of the Olympic Games. The ancient Olympic Games reached its apogee in5th century BC. Not only was the competition events abundant, but also the organizations and forms of ancient Olympic Games was more standard than before in the5th century BC. With tangled warfare between the city-states and the subsequent the rule of Macedonia and Rome, the ancient Olympic Games gradually faded in the Hellenistic era. The ancient Olympic Games was completely abolished by the Roman emperor—Theodosius, which lasted for nearly1170. In short, the development of the ancient Olympic Games has something to do with the development of city-state of ancient Greece.
