Mood is the soul of landscape painting.Nowadays, no matter for the creation or appreciation of landscapepainting, mood is an inevitable topic. Unavoidably, it truly exists,because it is an important part of an excellent landscape painting,releasing no negligible energy. For one specific work, mood means thecarrier of artist’s cultural meaning, emotional style and the request forlife.So it is worth studying.This paper explores the formation of mood from physical geographyto artists’ subjectivity.etc. By interpreting and comprehending the worksof Old Masters like Ivan I. Shishkin, Levitan, Saffo Vlasov, Pissarro, WuGuanzhong, etc. it works out the process from conception tomanifestation. Besides, I totally agree the idea that mood of the paintingis set by man and try to explore the subjective mood setting andperformance in terms of composition, color, brush strokes and space.Meanwhile, this paper also explores the mood orientation and aestheticvalues of the contemporary Chinese landscape painting in order to makeit more characteristic of the times and national soul.
