The Ming and Qing dynasties are the prime period of the development of CourtLady paintings which are a typical pattern of the decorations on pottery because oftheir fertile content and the variety of decorative technology. It makes court ladypaintings not only possess tremendous value in art and history, but also have profoundeffects on pottery at that time. As a result, the court lady painting is a kind of themeand element which has been portrayed and painted a lot. From a deeper perspective, italso has abundant cultural meanings and social history background. For us, the studyof court lady paintings in Ming and Qing dynasties enables us to know the traditionalculture profoundly. Besides, it also reminds us the relationship between thedevelopment of pottery and traditional culture.This thesis includes five sections. The first section summarizes the change offigures in the court lady paintings, starting with the figures in art works that asidefrom pottery.Then, the court lady paintings which were painted before the Mingdynasty are introduced in the first section, describing the features of antiques indifferent ages. The second section is a systematical analysis on large amount ofpictures of the court lady painting on pottery in the Ming and Qing dynasties. So itgives us a general picture of its course of development. Based on this examination, thethird part of the thesis makes a vertical comparison about the evolution characteristicsof court lady paintings. In order to reveal the law of evolution, the author try to studythose evolving characters from craft and techniques of porcelain,the painting content,the figure dynamic and clothes and the entourage of composition. The fourth sectioncompares the content, techniques and the character image of court lady paintings onporcelain with those aspects of contemporary art crafts, in seeking of the possibility ofmutual reference and interaction between them. The fifth section explores theprofound meaning and the cultural value of the court lady paintings on porcelain,which contributes to the better understanding of the social life and cultural thoughts atthat time.
