In this thesis, the second presidential debate in2012(excerpt) is chosen as thematerial for mock consecutive interpreting. Based on the analysis of the material andtargeting at solving difficulties encountered in the process of mock interpreting, arelatively accurate interpretation is given by using interpreting methods and strategies.This thesis consists of several chapters, namely, introduction, analysis of thematerial used for mock interpreting, analysis of the difficulties and their solutions inmock interpreting, analysis of examples, summary, etc. The three chapters in themiddle form the main body. In the second chapter, the material is discussed andanalyzed from three different aspects, which serves as a preparation to the process ofmock interpreting. In the third chapter, solutions are provided to the problemsconcerning interpretation of words and phrases, together with interpretation of longsentences. The study is focused on the interpretation of names of people and places,special expressions and new words, and interpretation of difficult sentences. In theinterpretation of difficult sentences, attributive clause and range of adjuncts arediscussed. In the forth chapter, typical examples are analyzed using differentinterpreting methods. In interpretation of names and places, transliteration is used. Forproper nouns, material found by searching the Internet is used. For familiar wordsused as different meanings, the context is utilized to find their meanings. As for newwords, their meanings are predicted with or without the help of a dictionary. For longand complex sentences which have attributive clause in them, translating methodssuch as Embedding, Cutting, Reversing, Detachment and Recombination are used. Inthe identification of the range of adjuncts, several interpretations are listed and acontrast is made to find a most proper version. At the end of the thesis, there is asummary.
