William Scott is (hereinafter referred to as Scott) one of the most outstandingabstractionism artists in England of the20th century. Scott spent most of his studyingtime in England. Great changes had been taking place in the European artistic world, andthe contemporary British painting world was in bloom with a galaxy of talented artists.However, Scott distinguished himself with his unique and personalized artistic style inthe domestic painting circle, which mostly resulted from his studying on the fine worksof masters as well as his rich travelling experience of the cities of art. Scott obtainedself transformation on artistic style through in-depth reflection and repeated efforts.Despite of twists and turns in life, Scott procured enlightenment and sublimation on hisartistic style and attitudes through hardships and setbacks. In a word, Scott completedhis road of artScott introduced plain geometry as a painting element into the creation of portraitureand still life in his early life, then he set his personal painting style with preferenceon abstract images of plain geometry and achieved the final self-maturity. This change,on one hand, enabled him to fulfill balance between specification and abstraction ofpainting factor of form, on the other hand, distanced himself from the other artists. Theauthor of this paper thinks that the brilliance of Scott’s art works lie mostly in plaingeometry as a painting form. Scott is the symbol of using plain geometry, study and analysison his painting style will be of great importance to us on the research on the elementsof painting form. The author attempts to conduct analysis on some of his famous art worksand the formalization of his painting style. Also, the author will concentrate on how plaingeometry becomes the main painting element in Scott’s art works as well as the transformationof his painting style. In the end, this paper will mainly focus on thinking and summarizationon the influence and enlightenment of plain geometry as an important painting element onthe author’s art creation.
