The goal of this dissertation is to provide an objective observation and research on Saariaho’s orchestral works Orion, Notes on light and Nymphea Reflection, and to explain the structure and organization modes of pitch and acoustics within them. Furthermore, compositional ideas about structure of dynamism and stasis, notion about noise and sound, along with the isomorphism conception between timbre and pitch will also be covered. Finally the essay will address the network of dimensions which is influenced by the concept of timbre based acoustics.Together the four chapters, which describe the build up and development of various musical components, present an analysis and discourse on compositional techniques which inspired by the composer’s own original notions, and covers the development of Saariaho’s music composition. Collisions and integration among relationships between tradition and modern concepts, between inheritance and creation, and between perception and comprehension are explored, and how various techniques and methods are used to utilize them and enable the composer to express his ideas. The primary objective of the essay is to come to provide a conclusion about the relationships between techniques and notions in Saariaho’s music composition, and equally to reveal the characteristics of her timbre based acoustics.
