The "void" represents aesthetic in the Chinese traditional culture.Incontemporary art,the understanding and building of void is a "symbol",thatreflects "cultural sense of belonging". the "void" is one of the main factors inthe works of Zao Wou-ki that constitute his own style, concept of void intraditional Chinese painting was conveyed by the western oil paintinglanguage.Oriental artistic conception in Paul Klee’s painting triggered Zao’soriginal thinking about void,Zao resolves image and theme in the creation,after that, conveys a feeling of thinking of void and praise in the form ofabstract painting language,expresses thoughts and emotions freely. Themetaphysical aesthetic concepts were expressed physically.This article analyzed void of Zao’s works in composition, color, space,shape, etc. through his representative works of early medium late threesperiods.
