| Xunyang county has a long history of humanities. It formed a unique name culture in the long history development. This paper attempts to interpret place names in Xunyang from cultural and linguistic point. Firstly, the county’s geographic history was introduced as background. The principal of nominate of Xunyang County was analysis and classified as descriptive names, historical names and desirous names. Secondly, the pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and rhetoric were discussed using linguistic method which summarizes the characteristics and its principal of the toponymy in Xunyang County.Then the cultural connotation of toponymy in Xunyang was revealed from the perspective of the relationship of between toponymy and region, economy, military, history, tribe, totem and religious. Finally, it pointed out the evolution process of the standardization of the toponymy of Xunyang County meanwhile the problem and its solutions also be gave. All in all, through linguistics and culture study, it is trying to enrich research the toponymy in Xunyang, highlight the cultural character. And it also can provide some reference for local tourism economic development and the evolution of standardized process. |
