Investigation And Study On Toponymy In Wanzhou District Of Chongqing

Place names are those specialized names created by human beings for those specific natural geographical and human geographical entities,so they are closely related to the generation and development of human society.However,the place names and toponymy are created with relatively strong local characteristics after being influenced by factors as geography,history,dialects,etc,not to mention their implicated profoundness and complexity.Study on place names and toponymy is conductive to historical textual research,moreover,it also provides some beneficial reference for research on language and words,as well as the administration of place names.The paper takes the toponymy in Wanzhou District,Chongqing as the main object for investigation,which is an attempt to study on the regionality of place names.Based on sorting out the relevant research achievements,firstly,the paper makes brief elaboration on the basic situation of geographical environment,historical heritage and innovation and toponymy in Wanzhou.Secondly,as the recorder and carrier of place names,toponymy is the key research subject;based on comprehensive statistical analysis,the paper carries out research and elaboration on the general and specialized toponymy one by one.Additionally,the paper also pays great attention to the variation of number of the syllables in place name,as well as discusses its relationship with urbanization process in modern civilization.Meanwhile,the changes and overlapping phenomena of place names are analyzed from the perspective of standardization of place names with some relevant countermeasures being put forward.Finally,it makes a brief review of the whole paper and summarizes the shortcomings of the research so that they will be improved in the future.By relying on the thorough investigation,it aims at mastering the toponymy character in Wanzhou and mining its rich connotation,which contributes to the research and management of the place names in Wanzhou.
