Investigation And Study On Zigong Toponymy Characters

Place names are the exclusive names agreed upon by certain social groups for a particular geographical area,and their basic function is to indicate the orientation,scope and geographical categories to which a certain geographical area belongs.Chinese characters in toponym are the most important carriers for recording place names.The purpose of studying the Chinese characters in toponym are to enrich the connotation of Chinese characters,to learn the characteristics of the natural geography and human history of the area,to open up new ideas and directions for the disciplines of history and geography,and to provide an important reference for the naming of the newly developed areas.At present,the systematic study of the Zigong toponym characters are still blank in the academic circle,and this study is aimed at in-depth understanding and analysis of the specific situation of the characters in the area of Zigong and the natural geography and human history characteristics reflected.Based on the Chinese characters of the place name in Zigong City,Sichuan Province,the paper combines the theoretical knowledge,linguistics,geographical names,historical geography and other related disciplines,mainly using the combination of literature research and sampling survey,quantitative research and qualitative analysis,comparative analysis and comprehensive generalization of the study method to make a detailed interpretation of the toponymy characters.The article is divided into six parts.The first part is the introduction,mainly explains the research object of this study,the reason for the selection of topics,the current situation of the study of geographical names,the significance of the study,the research objectives,the research ideas and methods.The second part mainly introduces the general situation of the geographical history of Zigong,the place names and the toponymy characters of Zigong.The third part is the main part of the article,this part first of all,the toponymy characters of Zigong divided into natural geographical entities with Chinese characters representing categories in toponym and human geographical entities with Chinese characters representing categories in toponym,and then make a detailed interpretation of two types of the toponymy characters.The fourth part is to analyze the three types of characters with relative regional characteristics in the toponymy characters of Zigong.The fifth part is mainly to make the two prominent phenomena in the toponymy characters and put forward relevant suggestions.The sixth part is the summary of the article,and finally came to the following conclusions and points of view:Chinese characters in toponym are not equivalent to ordinary Chinese characters;Zigong toponym Characters fully reflect the characteristics of "regionality,stability,and accordance",and record the natural features of the flat or mountain place in the Zigong area and the historical and humanistic conditions,in turn,the natural humanity of Zigong characters are largely determined;To a certain extent,some place-name characters are affected by the development and change of speech and the dialects of Zigong area,and there are a large number of re-emergence of toponym characters,harmonic phenomenon,in the future to try to avoid these two types of toponymy characters phenomenon continues to occur,so that the place names and its characters can be healthy development.
