As an empiircal study, this work combines quantitative and qualitative researchmethodologies. On the basis of literature summary, depth interview, expert discussionand so on,this study developed the Homosexuality Stress Questionnaire and testedthe reliability and validity of it. Furthermore, in order to understand the livingconditions of homosexual groups and the stress they may face, the study investigated215homosexuals using the revised Homosexuality Stress Questionnaire, at the sametime,12gay and lesbian people were interviewed to get additional information. Themain conclusions of this study are as follows:1.The Homosexuality Stress Questionnaire is reliable and valid and can be usedas a tool for homosexual stress measurement.2.The Homosexuality Stress Questionnaire consists of44items and can bedivided into6dimensions: self denial, family and marirage, social stigma, identityexposure, relationship with mate, and right and life security.3.The level of homosexuals’ satisfaction with same sex relationships is muchhigher than that with heterosexual relationships;no significant sex role differences arefound in the comparison of relationship satisfaction;the level of satisfaction with sexlife of homosexuals who have no same-sex partner is significantly lower than that ofthose who have same-sex partners; no significant satisfaction differences are foundamong sex roles.4.For homosexual groups, stress from family and marriage are the most severeones,followed by pressures from right and life security, relationship with mate oridentity exposure, social stigma, self denial results in least pressure on homosexuals.5.Significant gender and sex role differences are found in stresses fromrelationship with mate,6.There are significant negative relationships between identity exposure extentand stresses from self denial,family and marriage, social stigma, identity exposure,relationship with mate, and the total scores.
