YE Jia-ying is a famous scholar who studies Ci in contemporary era. Among herpapers, the most valuable are the ones which rethink traditional theory about Ci. Inone paper she compares hermeneutics and aesthetics of reception with WangGuowei’s theory and Zhang Huiyan’s, then she concludes that, Wang’s theory is amore suitable way for explaining Ci in Tang and Five Dynasties and the early NorthernSong Dynasty, while Zhang’s theory is a more appropriate way for explainingdescriptive Ci in Southern Song Dynasty. As for Ci which is written by Sushi and XinQiji, in Ye Jia-ying’s opinion, there is no suitable theory to explain it, but she makessome tries in her papers. She points out that there are some immutablecharacteristics in Xin Qiji’s Ci.Inspired by Ye Jiaying, I intend to reflect Ye’s idea in the light of Westerntheory. The introduction has reviewed the general remarks of the scholars on Ye’stheory. Chapter one has expounded Ye’s classification of Ci and the method ofappreciating three kinds of Ci. Chapter two has compared the “idea” which Ye appliesto interpret Xin Qiji’s Ci with Schopenhauer’s “idea”. Chapter three has compared themethod Ye uses to explain Xin Qiji’s Ci with the method of critics of consciousness.Chapter four has compared Confucian ethics with Kants practical philosophy andobtain a conclusion that Ye can’t apply Kants practical philosophy to explain Sushiand Xin Qiji. The conclusion is an overview of Ye’s theory.
