On The Artistic Features Of Zeng Fanzhi 's Figure Paintings

In the summer of1913, Cohen Art Salon organized the exhibition entitled’Rhine Expressionist artists’, which is the first appearance of title with’Expressionist Artist’in the Germany art history. With the influx of Western expressionism thoughts, Chinese painters were prompted to further strengthen the exploration and study of Chinese expressionist painting.Born in the1960s, Fanzhi Zeng experienced Chinese dramatic and complex social changes through his life. Using the expressive painting language in the art field he profoundly excavated people’s psychological influence underpins the rapid development in Chinese society. Zeng’s works are simple, but full of impacts and stories inside. These works were the exact reflections of his own life experience. His early works, characterized with a distinctive individualistic style, explored the most essential components in human nature, which were rarely mentioned, but would never be forgotten. With his constant reform and innovations, as well as the continuous pursuit with efforts, he got rid of the bondages and brought a dramatic leap in Chinese traditional painting.During the time when social realism paintings predominated the mainstream culture, Zeng’s works not only brought people with fresh perceptions, but also encourage people to stop to ponder the life. He created a new painting style. The study aimed to analyze his entire painting process and in search of new understanding of his paintings based on the unique expressionist painting language.Using the image, psychology, language analysis and other particular methods, the present study was designed to interpret the features in Zeng’s paintings. Our paper would not only help readers to find Zeng’ unique painting style, the inherent nature of this genius painter’s imagination and essence of the art works, but also would provide us with inspiration in the creation of painting and guidance for practical works...
