Design And Development Of College English Reading Application Based On Android Platform

Reading is one of the most important skills for both using and learning of alanguage. At present, College English reading learning still have so much to improveand learning material is one of the fields. By going through the studies on this issue,the author assumes that the reading materials used now have two main defects. One,they are not very supportive for learning process, two, they have very limitedcapabilities to display the knowledge. Meanwhile, smart devices such as smartphones, which have expanded the ways and content of learning, are using widely bycollege students and this makes the design of learning resources for smart devicesbecome a hot research direction. Against this background, the author suggests asolution by building an Android application to improve the effect of learning. Thispaper will show the main sections needed to fulfill the work, which are:(1) Theoretical work. First, we need to go over some learning theories aboutreading. Second, we talk about classic instruction design models and decide whatmodels will be used in this paper. Third, in order to build an app effectively andmake sure it delivers a good user experience, we also need to discuss theories aboutsoftware design and UI design. Then make a outline of this paper.(2) Analysis of Android. In this section we discuss why choose Android to carryout the solution, what details we must know to build an Android app, and how to setup the environment for Android app developing.(3) Design, code and test. In this section, we firstly settle down the position ofthe app. After that, we distinguish all the knowledge students need to know forreading into three categories and analyze how they work in English reading. Thenwe talk about the conditions, under what the app will be running, then propose theprinciples we must follow to design an app. On the basis of all the works mentionedabove, we can finally start the design of the app. The rest of this section is to codeand to test the app.(4) Examination and improvement. By analyzing the data collected from astudent questionnaire, the author confirms both the advantages and disadvantages of this application and makes some improvements.At the end of this paper, the author summarizes his research and makes a list ofconclusions drew by this paper and proposes some issues that need further researchin the future.
