With the development of International Mandarin Chinese Promotion, more and morepeople start to learn Chinese. The number of the learners who have anEnglish-speaking background keeps increasing year by year, for this reason, thisthesis made a comparison study from the view of Chinese and Englishword-formation, to discuss about the similarities and differences between them. Thenwe put up some relative suggestions according to the results of comparison,. Chapter1is the introduction part, in which I make a summary of the relative study, andexplain my topic selected reason, research method, and study content. In Chapter2, Imake a brief description of Chinese and English compound words world-formation toconfirm the study object of this paper: compound words and derivation words. Inchapter3, we compare compound words from the following five aspects: juxtaposedrelation, M-D construction, verb-object, subject-predicate and compliment, and putup my own opinion for the disputed forms in English: juxtaposed relation form andcompliment relation form. In Chapter4, we compare the derivation words of Chineseand English from their definition, classification and ways of their word formation toexplore their similarities and differences. In Chapter5, we put up some teachingsuggestions according to the results of the former comparison.1. Add moreword-formation knowledge in the teaching materials.2. For teachers, we should try toperfect our knowledge structer, to enhance our basic knowledge, cultivative ourcomparing sense and ability between languages.3. For compound words teaching, weshould follow the―similaries come first‖rules, and pay more attention towards thetransparency of the words‘meaning.4. For derivation words teaching, teachersshould pay more attention to the regulars of how affixes forming words from bothmeaning and structure aspects, so that we can help learners make a clearer clue forthis part learning.5. A vocabulary lesson plan case. In Chapter6, we point out theweakpoints of this thesis and the work we need to do in the future study.
