Jian Jiang, a person of Shexian County in Anhui and a painter in the late Mingand early Qing periods, is one of the four monks and a leading man of Xi’an paintingschool. He was a scholar in Ming Dynasty and didn’t cooperate with the QingDynasty. He thought himself as adherents of Ming Dynasty and enjoyed thelandscape between heaven and the earth. His works had a unique painting style and agreat impact on the landscape painting creation.The works of Jian Jiang contained the spirit of traditional Chinese pens andink which is the spiritual essence of aesthetic ideas and unique painting style. Thespirit of traditional Chinese pens and ink was broad and profound and came fromtraditional Chinese culture contained in Chinese classic painting. The spirit oftraditional Chinese pens and pink is the highest realm pursuit by Chinese scholars andguides the ethos of Chinese painting creation for thousands of years.This paper includes five chapters to expound the traditional Chinese pens andink of Jian Jiang and his works. In chapter one, the author makes a detailedintroduction of Jian Jiang, his life and era background. In chapter two, the authorelaborates era background, the shifting of Jian Jiang’ s thoughts, and the greatinfluence of this change on his aesthetic thoughts and artistic creation. In chapterthree, the author takes the works of Jian Jiang as an example and discusses the uniquepainting style under the guidance of the spirit of traditional Chinese pens and ink. Inchapter four, the author emphasizes the meaning of the spirit of traditional Chinesepens and ink in his works to Chinese painting creation. Finally, the author analyzedthe guidance of the spirit of traditional Chinese pens and ink to personal landscapepainting creation at the individual level.
