Regardeing as a basic unit of language, vocabulary is not only important butalso difficult in teaching Chinese as a second language. It is also an important factorwhich affect the comprehensive language competence of Chinese learners. Thuswhether vocabulary compeling is good or not is a key evaluation standard for Chineseteaching materials. There are lots of various Chinese teaching materials in market.From the content of language level, most of it is related to muiti-level students and itappears the tendency of focusing on multi-level students. The article takes“CharmingChinese”as a research object and compare all the vocabulary in it with “HSK Syllabus,trying to understand the situation and find out some problems in compiling it fromcontrast analysis, the amount of vocabulary and the distribution of vocabulary level inorder to seek the strategies and suggestions in compiling textbooks for teachingChinese as a second language, Which can supply significant reference for compilerand users.At the beginging, the research and evalution on textbooks for teaching Chineseas a second language and the vocabulary compiling achievement are reviewed. Thesignificance of studying a certain textbook is put forward as well. Secondly all thevocabulary in the textbook is made a quantitative comparion with “New HSKSyllabus”, followed by percentage chart. Finally combining the compiling principlesand starting from the vocabulary distribution situation, the control of total vocabularyamount, the distribution of different level words are analyzed in the thesis in order toseek compiling strategies and ways in textbooks for teaching Chinese as a secondlanguage.
