A Study On The Folklore Connotation Of Jiang Chuan Dialect Vocabulary

Based on the Jiangchuan dialect vocabulary as research object and foothold, bythe research and collection of dialect vocabulary, this thesis tries to discover thefolklore connotations which include the appellation, diet, etiquette faith, seasons, andentertainment under the guidance of general linguistics theory and cultural linguistictheory. During the research, the thesis conducts lots of field investigations to recordand sift the orally taught dialect vocabulary. According to the range and frequency ofapplication, the thesis classifies the Jiangchuan dialect vocabulary, which coversevery aspect of daily life. After that, the thesis analyzes these Jiangchuan dialectvocabularies by cultural anchoring approach, hermeneutical method and data studies,along with local historical materials and corpus in which it studies into the dialectvocabulary as well as folklore culture by comparison and contrasts, and elaboratesthem through five perspectives. The research results reveal the relationship betweenJiangchuan dialect vocabulary and local custom. Jiangchuan dialect vocabularycontains a rich mix of folkways and shows one-to-one corresponding relations tolocal custom. The appellations represent the valuing of kinship and blood relationshipin the locality. Meanwhile appellations also embody the cultural characteristicsincluding the patriarchal clan concept, respecting for seniority, hierarchicalclassification and polite language. Vocabularies which record diet reflect the variouskinds of local diet, and the self-contained diet culture by its given circumstances. Thefairly integrated preservation of traditional festival custom in Jiangchuan can bedrawn from its dialect vocabulary. Most entertainments follow the old custom, but therange narrow and some of them are close to die away. In addition, etiquette andcustom of marriage and burial in Jiangchuan prefecture also inherit the old traditions.In spite of the improvement and innovation, they are still of rich feudalisticsuperstition. In village, there still exist plenty of superstitious activities. Jiangchuandialect vocabulary has a close relationship with geography and reveals the productiveconvention of agriculture is prior while fishery is complementary in Jiangchuan area.
