From "youth No Regrets" To "cruel Youth"

“Youth of no regrets” is an important narrative subject for the literature of educated youth. “The cruel youth” is a distinctive style of novel for the literature of the after 80 s generation. Both of them are important components of contemporary Chinese youth narrative, and both formed strong contrast with their historical backgrounds, which reflected the living status, emotional and spiritual plight of the youth in the social transformation period. This article outlines the variation trajectories of these two novels, therefore unfolds an investigation on the side of the changes of the youth narrative since the new era.First of all, this article respectively expounds the strong contrast from the “Youth of no regrets” narration and “The cruel youth” novel with their own backgrounds, and then analyzes the internal logic and external background produced by the contrast, as well as the reasons and methods of “conversion of suffering” or “manufacturing cruelty”.On this basis, this article sorts the development sequence from the aspects “the perspective of sadness”, “the origin of sadness” and “the situation of sadness” for the “Youth of no regrets” narration and “The cruel youth” novel, searches the clues of variation within the constant youth themes, and thus indirectly represents the evolution of the young people’s growing backgrounds, psychological status as well as the living conditions for these thirty years.Next, this article starts from the variation of narration into the variation of people, takes the text as the center, writes from the different typical characters, different writing attitudes, different ideological background, shows the different gender outlooks, values and history outlooks of two generations of young writers. Thus, directly shows the conflict of ideas and the changes in the course of the two generations of young people.Finally, this article combines the changing trajectory of “Youth of no regrets” narration to “The cruel youth” novel, with the broader social and historical content on a macroscopic point, provides a direction of thinking for the contemporary Chinese youth literature developments and the set up of the youth image.
