Carrying thousands of years civilization of China, Chinese character is written symbols of Chinese. It consists of shape, sound and meaning which are quite different from the world’s mostly using words composed with letters. So during Chinese teaching we find that foreign students, especially those whose mother language is made of letters think Chinese is difficult to recognize, write and remember. Because students from Europe or America whose mother language is made of letters, they are not familiar with the structure of Chinese character. They never or rarely know about Chinese character, lacking of the knowledge of square-shaped Chinese character. To learn Chinese, they have to start from the threshold. They do not have the sense of Chinese character. So based on the definition, theoretical foundation and the basic features of Chinese character, this thesis will raise some concrete teaching measures according to the teaching principles and the difficulties of foreign students in non-Chinese cultural circles to learn Chinese. It provides some solutions and teaching methods in overwhelming the difficulties of foreign students in non-Chinese cultural circles to learn Chinese at their primary stage.
