With the rapid development of Chinese economic and the heating up of"mandarin fever", teaching Chinese as a foreign language is increasingly becomingone focus in our educational circles. As one of the important parts of teaching Chineseas a foreign language,Chinese character teaching becomes one difficulty in this fieldas a result of the specificity of itself and its teaching object. In addition, comparingwith the unprecedented development of the subject of teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage, Chinese character teaching to the foreign students is still in the state of slowdevelopment.As the written symbol of communication for our Chinese, Chinese characters arefull of historic and cultural knowledge in its unique characteristics of showingmeanings and its inner figuration. By analyzing the cultural factors of Chinesecharacters, students can understand the related knowledge of Chinese character better,improve the efficiency of foreign students’ learning of Chinese character, which canalso let them grasp how to use Chinese character more accurately, then improve thelevel of Chinese learning as a whole. In the meantime, abundant Chinese characterculture can also stimulate foreign students’ interest in learning Chinese, increase theirpassion on Chinese and Chinese culture, thus reach the goal of broadcasting Chineseexcellent culture and promote Chinese nation’s influence in the world.This thesis mainly consists of three parts. The first part mainly explains thepossibility, necessity, and significance of analyzing the cultural elements in Chinesecharacters teaching to the foreign students. The second part mainly analyzes thecultural elements in some typical Chinese characters. The third part mainly discussesthe principles, methods, strategies, skills and other issues of cultural analysis inChinese character teaching.
